SARDEGNA

1. Castiadas, 09040, Cagliari.
The land where I have lived for the past three years with my adolescent son, cats and dogs is 60 kms from Cagliari. It is situated at the foot of Monte Porcceddus in the Mediterranean shrub in a valley with a river running through and is ca 12 kms from the sea. We have a bicycle that you can use. Around us live people who have chosen various different lifestyles, independent and mainly organic. I live in a large caravan with a terrace and have electricity from solar panels and water from a well. We have made a compost toilet. Accommodation is in a separate caravan. A friend cares for the beehives on my land and is happy to teach about bee keeping. My aim is to be as self sufficient as possible. I have planted fruit trees and have a permaculture vegetable garden. We make artistic objects from natural materials which we sell in markets in summer. During this time I also need help from people who are willing to housesit and help with making my crafts. I am German and also speak English, Dutch and French.
2. 07040, Olmedo, Sassari.
We have 1 hectare of land with 20 olive trees, 25 fruit trees, traditional and synergic vegetable gardens and 3,000 m2 of flat land which we plan to cultivate with Mediterranean marquis and blueberries. Accommodation for a max of two people in house, with own bathroom and private space. In the summer we make conserves, in the winter blueberry juices and liqueurs. The olive harvest is at the end of October. Spanish, French and a little English spoken.
3. 09040 Muravera, CA.
This farm is situated on the south-eastern coast of Sardinia 50 km from Cagliari between Muravera and Castaidas. The unspoilt beach of Feraxi is a few km away. The farm has 3 hectares of land, one is woodland where there is space for tents, and the other two are cultivated. The restoration work on the house has been completed, 120 olive trees have been planted and work has commenced to maintain the woodland to make it more accessible for cutting firewood and pitching tents in the summer. In the last year, a hectare of aromatic herbs have been planted and a workshop has been built to process them. A greenhouse has been also constructed for the winter vegetable garden. Monica does not use chemicals, adores children and lives on her own with 3 dogs and a cat. The farm is isolated. Depending on availability there are two rooms in the house, space for tents and four beds in a caravan with an outdoor shower. English, French, Spanish and Portuguese spoken.
4. 09010 Masainas, CA.
We live in a small village (1300 inhabitants) 6 km from the sea in south west Sardinia. Our land is a 5 minute walk from the house and is 4 hectares with a vineyard, vegetable garden and grazing for 30 goats. Help needed with milking, cheese making (only in the spring and summer),harvesting strawberries, preparing artichoke bulbs for planting, in the vegetable garden and vineyard, harvesting olives, harvesting grapes, making wine, grape juice and conserves. This year our son his German wife and their small children will also be living with us. German, English and some French spoken.
5. San Vito, 09040 CA.
I am a farmer with 5.60 ha of land in south-east Sardinia, about 7 km from the sea. Using only organic methods, we cultivate a vineyard, olive grove, fruit orchard and vegetable garden. We have not had the farm for very long (2007) but have 10 years of experience in organic agriculture. We try to preserve all the produce that we do not consume fresh (by making preserves, drying etc.). We have chickens and two sheep. We regularly bake bread. My husband and I work on the farm. We are building an earth house and also make bricks for building with earth, water and straw (we have made all the bricks and now are starting to build). We work all year round but for those who are interested in our construction projects, the best time to come is from early spring to autumn. You can also learn about harvesting and dying with herbs (we use Sardinian sheeps wool). Accommodation in comfortable room in a shed constructed with cane and mud (which we lived in for four years) or tent (in the summer). We prefer people who speak Italian as we speak very little English, French and Spanish (but enough for simple conversations).
6. Alghero, 07041 SS.
We are a couple who live in the countryside near Algero, 4 km from the city. We have an olive grove which we cultivate biodynamically and a synergic vegetable garden following the methods of Emilia Hazelip. We also have a centre in the city where Lamberto teaches Taiji Quan and Tiziana teaches shiatsu, breathwork and family constellations. We need help from WWOOFers mainly during the olive harvest (Oct-Nov) and in the spring (Feb-May) for the vegetable garden. It is important that you have the ability to be self sufficient. We have a room with bathroom on the ground floor for 2 WWOOFers and our meals are generally vegetarian. Length of stay by arrangement. Jobs include harvesting olives, clearing the suckers from the trees, in the vegetable garden with seeding, planting, mulching etc. We speak good English and French.
7. 09043 Muravera.
We have a small farm on the south-eastern coast of Sardinia (3 km from the sea) where for more than 10 years, we have biodynamically (Demeter) cultivated aromatic herbs for drying, culinary use and teas. The family consists of B. and P. and their children N., S. and M. For the herb cultivation, there are other workers on the farm. Help from 1-2 WWOOFers (children welcome) needed with transplanting, weeding, harvesting and pruning the herbs, in the house and baby-sitting and housework if WWOOFers are willing. We can accommodate WWOOFers all year round but usually have a full house during the summer as many friends visit. Help needed in March with seeding/transplanting, in June to harvest verbena and at the beginning of November to harvest saffron. WWOOFers are accommodated in a tent in the summer and a caravan in the winter. Meals with the family. The language spoken is mainly Italian and some knowledge of Italian is essential to communicate during work and in the house. B. speaks German and P. speaks German, English and French.
8. Sorgono 08038, Nuoro.
Our farm is situated in Sorgono, a small village 50 km from Nuoro and 160 km from Cagliari. We have 26 ha of land between woods of cork oaks on one side and an archaeological site with nuraghe and menhirs on the other. Our main activity is farming, 100% organic, and we follow the whole cycle from seeding to harvesting. As well as farming we do building jobs with wood, are making a stall for the donkeys, roofing, and many other building jobs on the farm. We make conserves from vegetables (with aubergines and courgettes as well as tomatoes), collect firewood, care for the animals (4 dogs, 5 cats and 2 donkeys) do carpentry, cooking and domestic chores. WWOOFers are invited to participate in all the activities on the farm. Accommodation is in a room shared with other WWOOFers in a comfortable house 7 km from the farm where many of us also live. The interesting part of the farm is the people who live here! We are 9 people with a united aim -but with very different experiences- which has united us and bought us here. The agricultural project is connected with a cultural art project and a humanitarian project in India and Nepal. We speak English and some French and also malayalam, the language of Kerala, India! We plan to start hosting volunteers from June 2011, but please feel free to contact us before then. We can start knowing one another and make plans for next Summer!
9. 09020 Cagliari.
This is a small farm (4 Ha) of which only 1/4 is cultivated -organically but not certified- with a fruit orchard, vegetable garden and olive grove. This year as well as the usual jobs (pruning, grass cutting etc) we want to plant an olive grove and install an irrigation system. Accommodation is in a cabin with electricity, hot water, heating, kitchen, bathroom and a large veranda in the woods. As I also work part time as a teacher I cannot always manage to prepare meals but will buy food for you to prepare your own meals at times. The land is 10 minutes by car from beautiful beaches and sea and the towns of Castiadas & Muravera, and 2 kms from the bus stop. There are bicycles that you can use. We have three houses which we rent out but WWOOFers have nothing to do with this side of the activity. Myself and my family (wife and two children of 16 & 14 years) have lived on the farm up until this year but as the children are at school in Cagliari (1 hour by car) and my wife works there they stay in the town and come out to the farm at the weekends. I work near the farm and I like the idea of help on the farm with a more relaxed attitude than the usual work rapport. We can accommodate two people and speak French and passable English and so are happy to have non Italian WWOOFers and thus to have a more interesting cultural exchange.

PERUGIA

1. Passignano sul Trasimeno, 06065, Perugia.
This co-operative was established in '76 and they have 162 ha of land of which 133 are woodland, there is an olive grove of 12 ha with an olive press on the farm, a small fruit orchard with heirloom varieties, a vegetable garden with herbs, and the rest is pasture for sheep, goats and cattle. WWOOFers are mainly involved in the agricultural side. The production is organic and certified. The co-operative also runs a farm school and an environmental education centre where they hold educational, productive, informative programmes on social agriculture.
2. 06055 Marsciano, PG.
This is an old convent which has been been restored and is surrounded by a mediaeval garden with antique plants and roses. It is surrounded by 36 hectares of hills where we cultivate 1200 olive trees, wheat, barley and sunflowers. Our main produce is DOP extra virgin olive oil. During the pruning and harvesting of olives (March/April & November/December) we can accommodate 4 people. During the rest of the year, we need help from 2 people with the vegetable garden, and in the less busy periods, to clear paths and care for the roses. Meals made mainly with home grown produce. Accommodation is in a double room with bathroom or an apartment in a neighbouring house. A little English and French spoken.
3. Spello, 06038, Perugia
On the train line between Florence and Rome and just minutes off the superstrada is the medieval walled town of Spello and our very small farm located within the centro storico. We grow medicinal and culinary herbs for market, run a small composting project, and create and maintain sustainable gardens for neighbours. We maintain a small olive grove just outside our town and sold our olive oil for the first time this year. Our long-term goal is to be self-sufficient, a model for city farms feeding cities. We need help with everything from seeding to weeding, digging and sorting compost. English spoken. We are ovo-lacto vegetarians.
4. Pontedassi, Gubbio, Perugia.
This farm and spiritual retreat centre has been run organically for over 10 years and is situated in the hills 6 km from Gubbio. B. and I., 2 kids, 3 cows, 9 goats, 1 dog and 2 cats look after the veg. garden. We welcome people who want to help and learn about natural agricultural methods and permaculture in the vegetable garden, We also have 4 horses, 2 lakes, woodland, fruit and olive trees. garden, planting and pruning trees, maintaining roads, creating paths and other tasks. Help is also sometimes needed in the agritourism, which holds spiritual retreats from March to October. Accommodation in room or tent. Meals are Sattwic and vegetarian. No smoking. No alcohol. 5. 06063 Magione, PG.
A. and A. (the 5 children have left home) live in a large house in the hills near Lake Trasimeno (16 km from Perugia). The 10 hectare farm (mainly olives, 5 sheep, chickens, vegetable garden, greenhouse, pasture and woodland) provides suitable surroundings and a family environment for young people who come from Germany for a year to experience various activities (woodwork in a well-equipped workshop, bread making, building, home economics, gardening etc.) as a pre-apprenticeship or professional orientation (visit web site). Help needed with olive harvest, grass cutting, in the pasture, with fences and pruning the olives and fruit trees (mainly during the winter months). French, English and German spoken.

Small 6 ha organic farm which was started in 1991. Situated at an altitude of 670 m in the Umbrian Appenines, near Assisi, Gubbio and Perugia (18-35 km). Cultivate cereals, forage crops, legumes, vegetables, herbs & fruit for own use and for the animals, 2 cows, calves, sheep, a horse, pigs, chickens, bees, cats and dogs... We are a large family and run the farm as a social project and host adolescents from abroad to help them learn and integrate. We are happy to accommodate anyone who would like to help with the varied jobs on the farm, in the textile workshop (we make felt from the sheep's wool), natural dying and in the house. This is a centre which offers hospitality to groups for yoga and meditation, and to people who are looking for a peaceful holiday or retreat. It is situated in a sparsely populated area. Part of our activities include a centre dedicated to J. Krishnamurti. Help is required maintaining the area around the house, lawns and flower beds. We are creating a net of paths starting from the house and this require some maintenance. Accommodation is in room or in a tent (when there are a lot of people in the house). Minimum stay of two weeks or longer. Meals vegetarian and mainly organic. No smoking in the house. English, French and Spanish spoken.
8. 06040 Vallo di Nera, PG.
We're A. (44), D. (34), and B. (3), living on 22 hectares including organic olives, wine grapes, extensive orchards, woods, pastures with horses, donkey, milk goats, poultry. We are interested in permaculture and forest gardening , green building, edible wild plants, medicinal herbs, local traditions. Our 2011 projects include building a straw bale poultry-house, tending a large vegetable garden, running a tiny agriturismo, stonewall construction, increasing our collections of heritage-variety and rare fruits (we have 350 different varieties of apples!). Work for WWOOFers includes cutting-stacking firewood, planting trees, fencing, helping in the fields, irrigating, spreading manure and harvesting fruit. We prefer hosting people who are strongly motivated to learn about sustainable agriculture. Help with the agriturismo and childcare is not generally asked of WWOOFers, though it may be possible if you are interested. 30 hectare farm situated at an altitude of 600 m between Assisi (18 km away), Gubbio (23 km) and Perugia (30 km), which is completely organic. Help needed with the cultivation of 10 hectares of cereal crops and legumes, the woodland, maintenance of paths, in the vegetable garden and fruit orchard, making jams and preserves, harvesting and distilling flowers (rose, broom, lavender etc.). We run courses in Italian cuisine and French. A large restored house with a bedroom (for 2) and own bathroom is available for WWOOFers. Minimum stay of 15 days. We speak excellent French and some English..
10. Umbertide, 06019, Perugia,
Small agritourism and teaching farm. Run by A. & T., two ex teachers, A. & E.. They also have chickens, dogs, cats and tortoises. The jobs in spring and autumn that WWOOFers can help with are caring for the garden and vegetable garden, harvesting fruit, making jam. looking after the animals, in the kitchen, with the Aloe they cultivate Aloe) and with workshops for the children. Obviously jobs vary according to time of year. They speak English, Spanish. Russian and Latvian.

20 hectare organic farm/open house in the hills 10 km from Gubbio. Very simple lifestyle, bring sleeping bag, long stays possible. We breed Camargue horses and Sardinian donkeys, and keep milk sheep, hens, ducks, cats & dogs. Pasture, woods, olives, vines, vegetable gardens fruit. 12. 06062 Città della Pieve, PG.
A vegetarian family of four (children who are not always at home) run this farm and agritourism. We produce, on 5 hectares, olive oil, honey, fruit juices, jams, vegetable stock cubes, cheese, herbs, vegetables (for the house), eggs and table olives. We have friendly animals: dogs, cats, 10 sheep, chickens and bees. We also have a kitchen/workshop for the preparation of conserves etc. and a carpentry workshop, and often bake bread and pizza in our wood oven. We are situated near a wood in a completely isolated spot 2 km from the mediaeval town of Città della Pieve. Meals (vegetarian) are mainly organic using our own produce. 13. Spello, 06038, Perugia.
We are a family and on this small farm and agritourism (6 has) we produce nearly all the food which we need for ourselves and our agritourism. Olive oil, wine, vegetables, and thanks to our sheep and cow Milly, milk and cheese. Our main project at the moment is to plant a permaculture orchard & vegetable garden of 2000 mt. Accommodation for single or couples in a double room with bathroom and three meals a day in exchange for a hand with the many activities on the farm for 5 days a week. 14. 06024 Gubbio PG.
Certified (AIAB) 30 hectare organic farm and agritourism at an altitude of 660 m in the Umbrian hills 15 km from Gubbio and 27 km from Perugia and 30 km from Assisi. The land is partly woodland and partly cultivated with cereal crops, olive and fruit trees, a large vegetable garden and we have bees. We make jams, bread and cakes and cultivate a large garden with vegetable and flowers. Accommodation in room with bathroom or apartment, we are vegetarian, meals with the family. 15. 06080 Assisi, PG.
We are a young couple who run this agritourism with 16 hectares of land at an altitude of 500 m in the hills (7 km from Assisi). We have 6 hectares of olive grove which produces organic extra virgin olive oil. WWOOFers needed to help with general maintenance jobs, in the garden, the synergic vegetable garden, pruning and harvesting the olives. This year we intend to expand the synergic vegetable garden and garden. Accommodation in our house, we have a child (1 year). Meals mainly vegetarian and organic. We speak good English and German.
16. Città di Castello. PG.
A certified organic farm & agritourism with 3 hectares of olives, 2 h. of forage crops, fruit trees and vegetable garden and 1 h. of pine forest. Free range pigs, sheep, goats,chickens, geese, 2 cats and 2 dogs. Help needed with care and pruning of olives, in vegetable garden & with the animals, also in the kitchen and with guests if you like this work. Family consists of S. (37), A. (40), R. (8) & N. (5) and together they run the farm and enjoy sharing their house and work with others. Help needed from 1-2 people for a minimum of 15 days. 17. 06029 Valfabbrica, PG.
120 hectare farm on a hill at 500 m above sea level. 100 hectares are completely organic, and we cultivate wheat, spelt, barley, maize and oats. We practice crop rotation so therefore only 30-40 hectares are cultivated every year. There is also pasture and woodland. We have 400 Sardinian milk sheep, 6 horses, chickens, turkeys, dogs and cats. We make pecorino and ricotta cheese and also produce olive oil. We also make textiles (we have an antique loom with 8 heddles and pedals) and practise shiatsu massage. Accommodation is in a double room, minimum stays of two weeks. We also have a small, family-run agritourism. English, German, French, Finnish and Swedish spoken.
18. San Martino in Trignano 06049 Spoleto.
We have a small family-run bed and breakfast situated 10 kms from Spoleto in a peaceful area at the foot of the Martani mountains. Our family is made up of myself, C., my brother G. and my parents S. & M., my brothers children are also sometimes here and from Springtime on there are also guests in the B & B. We live in an old house on the outskirts of S. Martino in Trignano. The house is comfortable, and the first floor is for the B & B guests, whilst we live on the ground floor. We have a vegetable garden, garden, vineyard, chickens and some animals all for our own consumption. We have in the past had a plant nursery and seed in our greenhouse using organic seeds and manure. WWOOFers can help for 5-6 hours a day in the greenhouse, with seeding and transplanting, in the vegetable garden, garden, and with small maintenance jobs in the house. In your free time I will be happy to show you around the area. Depending on the time of year accommodation is in the B & B or in our house. Meals eaten together (using our own produce as much as possible) but are not always organic. We have bicycles which you can use. We are very careful not to waste energy or water. Internet available for 1/2 hour a day. WWOOFers with interest in organic and biodynamic cultivation are particularly welcome. A little English, French & Spanish spoken.
19. 06026 Pietralunga (PG).
Family run farm on the Apennine Umbro at 6-700m above sea level. Uncertified but organic, we have sheep, cows, pigs, and we try our best to meet all their needs. We cultivate wheat and cereal crops and have a vegetable garden. we make cheese and cure the animals skins to make slippers, toys etc. We have bought a small house on the land we cultivate and are making it habitable with minimum intervention. Jobs for WWOOFers vary from season to season but are in the vegetable garden, caring for the animals, maintaining walls and some handcraft work. We have two children of 16 & 18 who help us. Accommodation in room, or in the summer in a tent for whoever prefers. Meals made mainly with our produce or produce exchanged with friends, sometimes the food we buy is not organic. We are happy to accommodate children, some English spoken.
20. San Biagio della Valle, (Perugia).
Agritourism and farm where we cultivate organically 60 hectares of land seeded in rotation with cereals, legumes & forage crops in fields which are flanked by 100 hectares of woodland. The various grains are milled on the farm using a stone mill to produce various types of flour. WWOOFers needed to help in the organic garden, to mill cereals, to press sunflower oil, etc. Also to maintain the woodland for visitors, clearing paths, enlarging straw bale huts in the woods, etc. Stays of at least a month, accommodation in room with bathroom (one double room / couple preferred) and meals using mainly farm products. Yoga twice a week, folk dance once. Piano in the dining room. English and French spoken.
21. Tuoro, (PG).
Small organic farm with a large house and 3 has of land situated very near Lake Trasimeno between the towns of Tuoro and Passignano. I and a friend have moved very recently to this farm which has been abandoned for a long time but which offers with its fields and large house the possibility to do many things, including a vegetable garden (which we have started to prepare), a fruit orchard and chicken run etc. Soon a donkey, horse, dog and other animals will be coming to join us. We need your help with varied jobs and your ideas! The house is near to Perugia and is easily reachable by train, there is also a bicycle which you can use. English and French spoken.

TERNI

1. 05030 Otricoli, TR.
Isolated farm run by H., who cares for the land and animals and is also a voice therapist. There are 3 hectares of land around the house with 80 olive trees, a vegetable garden, 40 fruit trees and 6 ha of woodland, as well as chickens, cats and dogs. Large house divided into self-contained apartments 3 apart from Heidi s), two double rooms and various outhouses. Help needed in the fields and on the farm, looking after the animals and in the overgrown vegetable garden. Planning to utilise the large spaces for various courses. Also runs a B&B. German, English and French spoken.
2. Baschi 05023, Terni.
We are an Italian/English family with three small children (we speak English at home). We live in a house with 3 hectares of land which we farm organically. The country is our way of life and great passion: we have a vegetable garden, about 100 olive trees, a fruit orchard and we produce olive oil for ourselves and our friends. In the past we travelled a great deal and now we would like the world to come to our house. Accommodation in room with bathroom, length of stay by arrangement. Meals using our own produce (when possible) and can be vegetarian. There are always may varied jobs to be done. This is a certified organic (since 200) farm of 7 hectares where I cultivate a hectare of olives, a vegetable garden and 2.3 hectares of Spelt. I make bread with the Spelt flour and sell it in organic markets. WWOOFers can participate in seasonal work; pruning & harvesting olives, in the vegetable garden, bread making and selling in markets, maintenance work such as grass cutting, wood cutting, house maintenance, cooking. 4. San Venanzo, 05010, Terni.
This 50 ha certified organic farm (18 ha of woodland) is situated in the Parco Naturale del Monte Peglia between Todi (25 km), Perugia (35 km) and Orvieto (40 km) at an altitude of 450 m. Help needed with maintaining the woodland, clearing old paths and we are organising teaching courses on the the clearing and use of woodland. Cutting wood, with fencing for the sheep, in the vegetable garden, olive grove and with the cultivation of Kalmut, maize, barley and oats. Also with the chickens and rabbits. Accommodation in room or tent depending on the season, there are two comfortable stone houses which have been restored using green building principles. Length of stay by arrangement. Meals can be vegetarian, vegan or other. English, French and Spanish spoken.
5. 05018, Terni.
This is a 2 ha farm immersed in the countryside only 4 km from Orvieto, with olives, fruit trees, woodland, a vegetable garden, 1 dog, 3 cats and chickens. Here we cultivate aromatic and medicinal herbs (which we also prepare), extract essential oils, make soaps and massage oils. We would love help from nature lovers with the outside tasks, and to plant herbs in our small botanic garden. There is a B & B, a room where we display our produce and a room where courses are held on holistic medicine and making natural cosmetics. Accommodation in a room for two with a bathroom, minimum stays two weeks. English and school level French spoken.
6. Acquasparta, 05021, Terni.
Ciao, we are M. and P. (mother and son). Our farm produces forage crops for horses and cows. There is a large house to accommodate you, it sleeps 10 people, with two bathrooms and a large kitchen with a fireplace, a large dining room for all of us to eat together in and an old wood burning oven for baking bread. There is a lovely little chapel dedicated to San Francesco di Assisi. The farm is of 50 ha of which 18 is woodland. There are also two large pools, one of which has newts and frogs in it. An ancient Roman road crosses the property and there is a splendid rock (partly excavated by WWOOFers) which comes out of the ground on this road and we want to discover what it is hiding! We want to plant fruit trees, work on the vegetable garden and prepare vegetarian meals for everyone. We also want to prepare an area to plant herbs. The farm is very big, and we are doing all the work one step at a time. There are chickens (Pipere) with chicks which were born here (we never kill our chickens), an abandoned dog (Mighel), a Sardinian donkey (Pilo) and a goat. As well working on the farm I also produce musicals.

1. 61029 Urbino.
Our farm, which has always been organic, is situated 7 km from Urbino and is run by G. and C. We have cows (10), pigs (60), rabbits and chickens. All the animals are free range. We have chosen breeds that are in danger of extinction (especially the Cinta Senese pigs). We also have facilities for the preparation of our meat on the farm. We are not vegetarian, and only really speak Italian, but happily accommodate all nationalities. Accommodation in a room in the house or a good tent in the summer, meals organic. We do not have an agritourism by choice - the farm is much more important than tourism, no swimming pool.

We have a small place (1,5 ha) situated in the gentle hills in le Marche at an altitude of 630 m & 45 km from the sea. In the mountains behind us within a 50 km radius there many interesting historical, artistic and cultural sites. We cultivate mainly for our own use vegetables, potatoes, fruit and olives. In 2009 we planted 1,000 herb plants to distil and make essential oils and also to make tisanes and dried herb mixtures, we also harvest wild herbs. Cultivation is 100% organic but we are not certified. We are also restoring our out buildings (using green building methods as much as possible) to make a meeting place for groups and seminars and other activities. We would be happy to have help in the vegetable garden, with the herbs, with building work and in the kitchen. Accommodation (children welcome) in a room, caravan or tent. My farm is of about 3 hectares, and is near the village of Sirolo (from the garden there's a lovely view of the village, the sea and mount Conero). We grow olives, herbs (lavender, rosemary, thyme, calendula), saffron and have a vegetable garden. The farm is organic and we use techniques that allow us to steer clear of any chemical substances and use renewable energy sources. Preparing the soil and looking after the plants using the most natural principles possible are the main activities that WWOOFers will be involved with. I have a biology degree and I am trying to apply composting techniques to the household and farm. I speak French and German, I understand a little English but cannot speak it, I am learning basic Chinese.

A 3 ha organic (certified) farm in the hills with a river at the foot of it. The small stone house has not been renovated. 25 kms from the sea. Accommodation for 1-2 people in own room, we will carry out tasks together communicating in Italian with some English, Croatian, French and Portuguese. Help needed all year round in the vineyard, cellar (to make Spumante Classico) & in the olive grove, length of stays by arrangement. Meals organic. We have cats but only one is allowed in the house.

By choice we do not have electricity - for cooking and heating we use a wood-burning stove. There is a spring near the house where we collect our water. We are M., G., S. (6), B. (3) and Y. (1). We need help all year round for various activities: in the vegetable garden, with the bees (we have three hives) with firewood, harvesting fruit, making jam, baking bread, maintaining the house... but we are mainly interested in sharing our chosen lifestyle with other people. Our family run farm has two activities, agriculture and an agritourism. There are 4 of us 3 brothers and parents. There are 22 has and 24 more which we rent. Our land is around the farmhouse which is the centre of the farm and the land forms the Pieve del Colle hill (351 m). We cultivate organically to respect the natural fertility of the soil and rotate our crops. We produce: vegetables, fruit, cereals, legumes, grapes, various seeds, Lucerne, firewood. I grow the major part of my food and also I harvest a lot of wild produce; herbs, flowers and fruit which I eat fresh or dry to conserve. The six of us (me, my wife, our 3 sons and my over 80 year old mother) live and work at 530 m above sea level near historical villages, many interesting sites (such as the world famous Frasassi Caves) and are just 45 km from the Adriatic Sea. Of our farm's 21 hectares - completely devoted to organic farming since 1988- we cultivate around 10 ha in grains, pulses, forage and vegetables irrigated with water from our lake. We have a flock of 50 sheep and we make our own cheese for family consumption. Our work with WWOOFers is based on collaboration both in the field (sowing, hoeing and harvesting) and in the barn (weaving onions and garlic) as well as in the house (sharing domestic tasks including cheese-making). We have hosted WWOOFers for many years, from all corners of the world and of all ages. We live in an old farmhouse in the hills with 5.5 hectares of land. Our main aim is self-sufficiency. We produce honey, propolis, olive oil, fruit, conserves and grape juice. By choice we do not have electricity or water in the house. We work with only simple tools. We do not use products which are not accepted by the organic certifiers on our land, for the plants and the bees. Our meals are vegetarian and we eat only organic produce based on cereals, vegetables, legumes and fruit. We prepare our meals on a wood-burning stove. We are interested in meditation (vipassana), yoga and native and tribal people. Since 1973, I have organically cultivated one hectare of land near the Parco del Conero (Ancona) and my aim is to be as self sufficient as possible. In the 1980s, we built the small house in which myself, my wife and our daughter (19) now live. We have a large vegetable garden for family use, 38 olive trees, a small vineyard, maize, legumes, 50 fruit trees, chickens, beehives, 4 small dogs and 4 cats. Part of the land is a semi-wild field of red clover, Lucerne, clover, chicory and wild edible herbs -to create humus and to have a low spontaneous winter garden. I am also a seed saver. I have a small workshop and teach wooden sculpture and model-making at a school. I am happy to share my skills with any interested WWOOFers. We eat nearly exclusively all our own produce. A small farm which is run on the principles of permaculture. The work on the farm is carried out by the sole resident of the farm who designs and teaches about permaculture. The main aim is to become as self sufficient as possible for food and energy. The main job is to pull up the old vineyard and in its place put up fences for animals and plant a productive hedge. Other jobs are in the vegetable garden, with the olives, animals & fruit orchard. We supply local groups with our produce and we also sell in markets, organise festas, meals and courses about home production. All around us (12 km from Cagli) there is only green, in front of our farm are the Appenine mountains and Catria. The farm has 46 ha of land and we cultivate 24 and have two vegetable gardens for the house and to sell vegetables locally. We make conserves, bread and other activities which allow us to be more self sufficient. We collect wild produce, apples, cherries, hips and figs, and medicinal herbs from which we make creams and oils. We have farmyard animals, and work in the woods and the house. We do not have an agritourism, we are a small family, but have a beautiful lake and are very happy to accommodate WWOOFers and teach you what we know and to learn about your culture, language but most of all to share a piece of the road we are travelling together. Biodynamic/organic farm and agritourism of 51 hectares, with 15 ha of woodland. Our main activity is a lot of work with a herd of 120 goats: herding, milking, cleaning out stalls and cheese making. We have a vineyard, an olive grove, vegetable garden, fruit orchard, bees, chickens, 3 dogs and 3 cats. The farm is at 550 m in an area between the Adriatic sea and the mountains of Gran Sasso. Organic farm situated in the Gran Sasso National Park in the Alta Valle dell'Aterno which is made up of three 1700 buildings in a small hamlet. On the 10 hectares of land they cultivate local varieties of spelt, maize, wheat, potatoes, chick peas, beans, and other vegetables. There is also a large botanical garden, fruit trees (quinces, pears, apples, cherries) and they have horses, 6 donkeys, sheep, pigs, rabbits, ducks, cats and dogs. As well as the agricultural work they also have a restaurant, package and sell their produce and organise treks by foot, on horseback & with donkeys. The farm is 9 ha, half of which is woodland, the rest is fields and 150 olive trees, 100 fruit trees, we have a B & B. We have 3 horses, 2 donkeys, chickens, 3 dogs and cats. During the summer season we go trekking in the high mountains. Help needed mainly with looking after the trees and animals. We can accommodate you in a room with bathroom, heating and hot water, in the summer in tents if the rooms are occupied by guests. This farm is situated in Abruzzo in the Majella National park at an altitude of 700m, 3 kms from Roccamorice, an ancient town built in stone on a ridge protected by a magnificent canyon. The farm is named after a shed made of stone situated on the property. The ancient structure was used as a shelter and now is used for various activities involving the school trips and also as a very original dining area. All the areas around the house, the swing, ping pong area, small library are for the use of guests. The farm is surrounded by mountains - the Majella, Morrone & the Gran Sasso. It is an ideal place for people who like trekking, walking, skiing and visiting the local attractions including hot springs, the hermitages of S. Spirito & San Bartolomeo and the sea which is 1/2 hour away. Our farm is in the hills about 50 km from Rome and has been completely organic since 1994. Our primary produce is olive oil. We are a family of four two adults and two children), but farming is the main activity for only one of us. This farm is the life project of M. & C., a young couple (30 & 28) who decided to leave the city in search of a more sustainable life in harmony with nature. Il Pulicaro is a farm with 24 has which was abandoned up until 6 years ago. Now the old stone house has been restored following green building principles and includes an agritourism and on the land there is an olive grove, fruit orchard (heirloom varieties), vegetable garden and cultivation of wheat and barley. The agriculture is carried out with total respect for the environment and centred on olive oil, honey, fruit, vegetable and egg production. They also have chickens, geese, ducks, turkeys and rabbits which are kept free range in a large fenced area. 10 has of land is woodland and provides the firewood for the farm. On our certified organic farm we produce olive oil, figs, persimmons and vegetables. We have 8.7 Ha of land and two houses one of which still needs to be renovated. We also have stabling for horses, ours and 'guests' and they are cared for using natural methods. The various harvests are: late June /early July figs, late August early September Figs, late October early November, persimmons, Nov/Dec olive harvest. Accommodation in own room with shared bathroom. On its 125 acres of land, C. C. offers accommodation and other touristic services, as well as the production of Extra Virgin Olive Oil, organic products from the garden, horses, cows and as many goods for self-consumption as is practically sustainable. Among the many other features, worthy of mention is the zero carbon footprint photovoltaic/gravity operated water system that irrigates all of its gardens and facilities. Work on the farm will vary from season to season, and might range from gardening to pruning, tending or harvesting olives, to fence or trail building. WWOOFers are usually not given any task dealing with animals unless the prove to be skilled and fit for that. Our farm (which is certified organic and biodynamic) is at an altitude of 400 metres. It is small (2.5 hectares) but varied: old oak trees, caves and a river with waterfalls which sing day and night. But generally we sleep at night. Activities, depending on the season, are varied: in the vegetable garden, hazelnut orchard, grapes, olives, honey, potatoes, maize, fruit etc. for family use. It is also a teaching farm with bees, donkeys, chickens, a dog, cats and goldfish. Mostly it is all done by nature with the sun, the flowers, the insects, birds and everything that moves by day and night. But generally we sleep at night. The village is 1 km away and there are good connections to Rome (70 km). The sea, lakes and hot springs are all within a 30 km radius. Help is needed to contain the invaders in the olive grove (brambles, hawthorn, Judas tree and hunters...), pruning and harvesting the olives, and some jobs in the garden - I hope to build a polytunnel and some watertanks for fish farming. Accommodation in the house in own room, or on a sofa bed sharing the room with a grand piano, harpsichord, masks, stilts etc... or in the cellars (cool in the summer). Food is mainly home grown or from organic neighbours, but also from the supermarket (no luck with the coffee beans, yet). Rome is 45 kms away, but there are places nearer by that deserve a visit, like the biggest olive tree in europe a couple of kilometres away. English spoken (mother tongue), also French, hardly a word of welsh, but lots of Italian. Stilt walkers welcome, also other cultural workers, LGBQ and (small) families.
9. Montefiascone, 01027, Viterbo.
We have this small farm in central Italy, situated on the beautiful Lake of Bolsena 100 km from Rome and Siena. We grow olives to make organic extra-virgin olive oil, fruit trees and vegetables for self-sufficiency and to make jams and other preserves. We also have sheep that produce milk, pecorino-cheese and meat for us. We are still restoring part of our old stone built house to have a small dairy and retail-point. The work on our farm is seasonal and mainly: gardening, picking olives and fruit, milking/cheese production, walling/restoring and many others, that we will tell you about when you contact us! Our food is mostly self-produced and vegetarian and we love cooking. We have a guest-room for you but you can also camp if you wish. We speak English and German..
10. Montopoli di Sabina Rieti, 02034 Rieti.
Our 100 ha farm, which has been in the family for generations is situated in the Sabine hills. We have always farmed organically and have a vineyard, olive grove, pasture and field crops for our milk sheep. We make cheese from the milk in our dairy. We live in an ancient house on the farm. Rome is only 50 kms away and easily reachable with public transport. Help needed May/June and October/November/December/January, French and Spanish spoken.
11. Nazzano, 00060 Roma.
This eco agritourism is situated at Nazzano in the heart of the Tevere Farfa nature reserve 45 km from Rome (accessible by metro). We consist of a group of families who have formed a co-operative; we have restored an old mill and started a centre for organic production, hospitality and a restaurant. We produce vegetables, olives and collect wild herbs for the restaurant and sell in small outlets in Rome. We have been running environmental courses here for 20 years for groups and schools. English, Spanish, German, and French spoken, can accommodate up to 4 people all year round to help out in the various agricultural activities and in the agritourism.
12. 01020 Torre Alfina, VT.
Organic farm (certified A.I.A.B since 1996) and agritourism, situated 18 km from Orvieto railway station. We are an Italian/German family with four children, two of whom are very young. We live in a farmhouse in the hills at the edge of the Monte Rufeno nature reserve, between Orvieto, Acquapendente and Lago di Bolsena; in the very north of Lazio, near to Tuscany and Umbria, in a panoramic position. The agritourism is our main activity, as well as various jobs on the land. We have sheep, chickens, dogs and a cat. Help needed for small jobs on the farm and in the agritourism. Accommodation for one (possibly with child in the future) in a comfortable wooden hut with wooden stove, cooking area and bathroom a few metres away. Meals with the family. We also have a pottery workshop, wheel and kiln. German and some English spoken.

This 5 hectare farm and agritourism is run by Filippo, his wife and their two small children. They have only recently started working on the farm to cultivate organic olives, vegetables and millet. They also raise pigs. They are willing to host WWOOFers for 1-2 weeks throughout the year with various jobs on the farm. They are 5 mins from the Lake Bolsena and 20 mins from Viterbo and the hot springs. Accommodation in room or tent. Unable to accommodate children at the moment. Meals not vegetarian and not always organic. Spanish, English and French spoken.
14. Montenero Sabino 02040, Rieti.
This is an organic agritourism of about 20 hectares with olive trees, fruit trees, a vegetable garden and some uncultivated fields. The farm is situated at an altitude of 700 metres in the woods of the Sabina Reatina. We have animals which we need help with and also maintenance jobs such as fencing, walling, repairing animal shelters, cutting grass, pruning and harvesting fruit and vegetables. There's space for caravans or tents but we also have wooden bungalows for WWOOFers. We are a young couple and with the owner have a lot of experience in agriculture and cooking. We want to create a farm that is also a teaching farm, so that children can come here to learn about Nature. We work hard, but also know when it is time to relax. We don't live on the farm, but in a village nearby (Mompeo), where we have other land that also need regular attention. We speak English, French, German, Portuguese and Spanish, we can cater for vegetarians, everyone is welcome!
15. Magliano Sabina, 02046, RI.
This farm is situated in Sabine and is well connected by train and the Roma Firenze motorway. It is a farm of 18 ha, with animals, woods, forage crops, a vineyard, olive grove and vegetable garden. it is certified organic but is also converting to biodynamic. The jobs are very varied and depend on the seasons; pruning, harvesting, fencing, caring for the animals and in the vegetable garden. You can also learn about the principles and practice of biodynamics. The practical side is run by a Sherpa Nepalese couple and their 4 children (14, 11, 8 & 2). The farm is finding new ways to commercialise their products, also via the internet, therefore people with expertise in this field are especially welcome. There is wireless internet in the house. Accommodation in a room with separate entrance, bathroom and kitchen. We speak English, a little French and Nepalese.
16. Casperia, 02041, Ri.
Farm with 125 olive trees and an organic vegetable garden, we are involved in the promotion of olive oil through tastings and the local farming culture through interviews with the old people in the area. We use traps with vinegar, soap and water against the olive fly, we collect firewood for our stoves, ovens and fire. We collect our water from a spring near the house. Help needed clearing under the olive trees and harvesting the olives alongside our other helpers. Photovoltaic solar panels for hot water and electricity. Wood burning oven. Cooking lessons. We harvest wild herbs and collect old varieties of seeds which can no longer be found on the market. We promote folk music from all over the world and you are welcome to join in! Birdwatching. Visits to local organic producers, ice cream, wine, olive oil, cheese, meat, old varieties of apple, permaculture garden. Walks in the mountains to collect wild and aromatic herbs. Jam making, conserves, olives. Meetings with experts on green architecture, Slow Food, car/sharing pooling, all of whom speak English. Possibility to learn how to work in stone, sculpture. We have many cultural exchanges; musical, linguistic, artistic, agricultural, gastronomic. In the house we have a piano, guitar, saxophone, clarinet, fisarmonica and a kora. Whoever likes to sing. One day we would like to make dry stone walls, but this is a dream.. or is it? We speak English and a little French.
17. Canneto Sabino, 02030, Rieti.
This small certified organic farm of 3 1/2 ha is run by two young men and is situated in valley in the Sabine, an area well known for olive oil, where they produce olive oil and vegetables. The farm is well mechanised but there are plenty of opportunities for WWOOFers to help in the various areas of cultivation. They are good mechanics and repair all the machines in their well equipped workshop, so anyone interested can learn a great deal about mechanics. Some of the land is pasture and here they care for animals which have been maltreated which are waiting to be found a more permanent home, there is also a barn for them. They have a lot of contact with animal protection organisations. They also work with the local civil protection association and therefore dedicate time also to this. Musicians and smokers are welcome! All their food is home grown or organic except salt, pasta and coffee, they get their milk from a nearby dairy, it is not organic but delicious! Accommodation in a singe room or on a sofabed in the living room, shared bathroom, if there are more than two people they have a military tent which sleeps 4, and they will be buying a van soon which can accommodate even more! A little English spoken. They are 50 kms from Rome and are well connected with the bus and metro.

1. Busso, 86010, Campobasso.
Small holding located in Molise region with completely renovated stone built farm house, for agriturismo activities including small restaurant, immersed in hilly country side, 1 mile from town. 4 ha including a 1 ha woodland, 0.5 ha vineyard with native vines to produce an excellent red wine, garden vegetables, fruit and olive trees for own consumption. Farm not certified but grow using organic principles. Wide range of produce even if in small quantities. Main duties include participating in all sorts of activities from general maintenance, baking, making pasta, jams and preserves, gardening, weeding, general maintenance keeping the whole place orderly and tidy with hands on and can do attitude sharing a fair amount of rest to enjoy the peace and tranquillity the place offers. Good opportunity if you want to learn about gourmet food and cooking.

1. Cicerale, 84053, Salerno
2 ha family run teaching farm where they cultivate fruit and vegetables and make preserves which are sold in the farm shop). The farm is immersed in the uncontaminated countryside 15k m from the sea and towns and they have a horse, goats, farmyard animals. Help needed with the vegetables, harvesting figs, the chick pea cultivation, selling in the markets. We are very interested in the cultural exchange aspect of WWOOF.
2. Carife , 83040, Avellino.
This farm was started in 1996 and here they produce mainly olive oil from ancient varieties of olives (Ogliarola & Ravece) and preserves (vegetables under oil and jams). It is situated at 700m and can be reached by bus from Avellino or by train to Ariano Irpino station. There are 19 ha of hilly land with 2500 olive trees and an area designated for a vegetable garden. A stay here allows you to be immersed in a traditional, rural lifestyle and to experiment with practices of olive cultivation and preparation of conserves using local techniques. Stays of 2-3 weeks.
3. 84029, Salerno.
This farm is situated on the slopes of the Massiccio Calcareo dei Monti Alburni in the Cilento and Vallo di Diano national Park in an ideal situation for the production of high quality food. Gianpaolo Mancini has been running the farm for a few years with the aim of recreating a non-energivorous way of farming, photovoltaic solar panels are being installed, which is less dependant on polluting fossil fuels, in which the soil is fertilised with organic substance and manure, based also on recycling and transforming the waste coming from the various activities. The farm is about 7 ha. (woodland, vineyard, olive grove, chestnut wood, vegetable garden and beehives) and has been certified organic since 1992. "Il sentiero del riccio" is made up of various productive bodies in the district of Sicignano degli Alburni and a farm centre, in which there are laboratories and a cellar for producing wine, oil and honey. Jobs vary according to the season. The farm is also a point of reference for guided tours, school trips etc. WWOOFers sleep in a three-room B&B, possibly with other people (not necessarily WWOOFers) in different rooms. We organise excursions in the hills, archery and yoga courses. Stays of 14 days to a month. Food is vegetarian and organic. We prefer adults. Languages: English (to be improved). In 2011 we want to make a chicken house and produce organic eggs and care for a horse which was saved from the slaughter house.

Family-run organic farm of 5 hectares with a mixed cultivation of olives, vines and fruit orchard. The work varies depending on the time of year. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 children), living in a partially restored old house. Self-sufficiency is our objective but at the moment we still have to buy some non-organic products. Accommodation offered to 1-2 people in a room with own bathroom or a tent in the summer. Length of stay by arrangement. Meals vegetarian with mainly own produce. Arrive by bus from Naples or Caserta. English spoken.
5. Frasso Telesino, 82024 Benevento.
Small 8 hectare farm with olives, vines, a vegetable garden and fruit orchard. The farm has been running since 2000 but the present owners took over in 2007. It is run organically focusing on the vegetable garden (small but productive), the olive grove (400 trees), creating a space for children and creating a mini teaching farm. There are chickens, 7 geese, 2 horses, 2 dogs & 3 pigs. The farm is still in the early stages and is orientated towards producing organic products. Accommodation is in a 3m x 6m wooden chalet with bathroom and shower, two bedrooms and veranda. The farm relies a lot on the tourism, but a great deal of work has been done on the agricultural side and there is much more to do! Main tasks are in the vegetable garden, olive grove, making pathways through the woods and to create an area for horse riding, there is also a swimming pool and there are mountain bikes which you can use. Situated in the centre of Campania, 45 km from Naples, 20 km from Caserta, 30 km from Benevento. English, German and French spoken.
6. 84057 Laurino, Salerno.
This is a farm where we run courses and workshops (for schools and associations etc) about rural ecological education, the use of wild aromatic herbs, water cycles, bread making etc. We have 2.5 hectares of land, use only natural methods and have a synergic vegetable garden. We grow 'Casusedda di Pruno' and 5 other ancient varieties of wheat. We are also hoping to install a stone mill. Activities include trekking with 2 donkeys (to increase to 7 when the stall made of chestnut posts, stone and straw bales is constructed) along the paths of the Cilento. We promote communication and solidarity for high quality organic produce from the sea to the mountains. Accommodation in room or in own tent during busy periods. Stays of at least three weeks preferred, children welcome. Meals vegetarian.

Farm situated in Cilento National Park, a UNESCO world site and one of the most biodiverse sites in the world. 4 hectares of mountain, hills and coast. Cultivate vines, olives, cereals, forage crops, vegetables, fruit, chestnuts and oaks. They also have goats, pigs, sheep and chickens. Follow permaculture, synergic and biodynamic principles. Jobs to do are very varied: in the vineyard, vegetable garden, planting, harvesting fruit, fencing, making preserves, etc. Accommodation in large house, food genuine and tasty! The daily routine varies during the year but usually we ask for 4 hours in the morning and a couple in the afternoon, Saturday until lunchtime. Sunday free. Minimum stays 15 days, nearest train station is Policastro (2 hours from Naples). English, Spanish and a little French spoken.
8. Piaggine 84065, Salerno
My small farm is situated in the Cilento National Park at an altitude of 750m 2 kms from the village of Piaggine (population 1,000). I need help cultivating an ancient vineyard, olive grove and fruit orchard, especially with making conserves etc. from the produce. We also collect mushrooms and wild herbs and in collaboration with other WWOOF hosts in the area also help with bread making using 'Casusedda di Pruno' wheat. Mediterranean cuisine and accommodation in room or own tent. The house is comfortable and the 3 ha of land I have cultivated on my own for many years as a real 'peasant'' farmer. Possibility to participate in Buddhist meditation sessions. Minimum stay 1 week. only Italian spoken but understand a little English
9. Monte Falcione 83020, Avellino.
30 hectare organic farm (since 1985, certified ICEA) which is also a teaching farm, run by three people and immersed in woodland. Accommodation in apartment with private bathroom or attic for up to 5 people all year round to help harvest hazelnuts, chestnuts, grapes and olives. The town is well situated for travelling to Naples, Rome, Bari (1 hour by bus), Pompeii, Castel del Monte etc. It is also possible to visit an ancient olive grove with trees that are over 300 years old. Meals organic. English spoken.
10. Sant'Agata de' Goti, 82019, Benevento.
RuCASA1130 is community project based on the principles of solidarity and self management. It is a community which believes in harmony, and encourages personal and communal growth. For some time we have had a vegetable garden to produce for ourselves and for other groups and people who are interested in the environment. This year we have a vegetable garden which produces enough for 10/15 families whilst reducing our environmental foot print. We have a small chicken run and produce eggs, every chicken has 3m2 of space, at the moment we buy their food from the market but we want to experiment with growing their food ourselves. We also have a beehive. We are aiming for self sufficiency and the sharing of private space. RuCASA 11,30 is a physical place but also a virtual space and there are people who live here all the time and others who stay for shorter periods, or even only for dinner! We speak Spanish, French and understand English.
11. SanPotito Sannitico, 81016, Caserta.
This farm was born from the desire of the whole family and they grow forage crops, have chickens, pigs and rabbits. There is also a small wine production and fruit and vegetables all grown organically. Rosana, owner and cook makes her menus from dishes that farming families eat all year round, improving them and adding her own personal touches. The friendly family atmosphere is created mainly by Ottavio, Rosanna s husband, who has always done his best to make people feel at home. We ask you to collaborate and integrate into the farm and help with jobs such as seeding, harvesting, making preserves, season after season, from the fruits of our soil.
