We are two guys who are realizing a dream: to revive the beautiful medieval village of San Pio di Fontecchio immersed in the Sirente Velino Natural Regional Park, half an hour's drive from L'Aquila. We are carrying out a project started in the early years of 2000 by two extraordinary people (Alfonso and Caterina) that is based on a widespread reception in the village. Giorgio takes care of the garden, the vegetable garden, the park and takes care of providing tourists with all the useful suggestions for a stay to discover the naturalistic, artistic and eno-gastronomic beauties of the area, I (Stefania) instead, I deal with communication and of the external relations of the company and at the same time I work as a project designer and trainer in the research of funds for public and private bodies throughout Italy. The type of hospitality we offer is based on the principles of responsible tourism, we prepare meals with the produce from the garden, buy cheese and meat from local producers and have breakfast with the jams of Giorgio's father. We cultivate and promote the knowledge of saffron. We can accommodate one or two wwoofers at a time for up to seven days during the month of October, March, April, May, June and July. Accommodation is provided in one of the free houses or in the house where we live with a shared bathroom. The tasks that volunteers could do are: picking the saffron flowers and taking out the pistils (in the month of October), arranging the fences, manually weeding the garden and the vegetable garden, following the composting operations, performing the pruning, cutting the grass, sow in the vegetable garden, carry out other gardening operations and maintenance of the botanical garden (cuttings and division of tufts, transplants), preparation and painting of outdoor furnishings. We we are happy to welcome volunteers from all over the world.
